# WRF with WPS

## Overview

The [Weather Research and Forecasting (WRF) Model](https://www.mmm.ucar.edu/models/wrf) is a next-generation mesoscale numerical weather prediction system designed to serve both operational forecasting and atmospheric research needs.

The [WRF Preprocessing System (WPS)](https://www2.mmm.ucar.edu/wrf/users/wrf_users_guide/build/html/wps.html) is a set of three programs whose collective role is to prepare input to the real program for real-data simulations. Each program performs one stage of the preparation:

You can load WRF 4.8.0 (including WPS 4.7.0) using the following command:
`module load WRF`

## WRF/WPS Components

WRF has been compiled with full MPI support and includes the following binaries that are automatically aliased when the module is loaded:
* `ideal.exe`
* `ndown.exe`
* `real.exe`
* `tc.exe`
* `wrf.exe`

The WPS binaries are also aliased:
* `geogrid.exe`
* `metgrid.exe`
